Top 5 Green Beauty Autumn Lip Colors

Now that the weather has gotten cooler around here I’ve been pulling out lots of my deep colored lipsticks. Here are my top five I would suggest you try! (Each of these lip colors are all natural, vegan, gluten free, cruelty-free and contain no carmine!)Root Jenny LipstickThis is by far my favorite fall lipstick color. It is a gorgeous cranberry wine color that absolutely compliments any looks you’d be wearing for fall. I highly recommend this color since it is so versatile. When applying it you can apply it light and have just a great light wash of color. When you swipe it several times you get a great deep cranberry color. If you purchase just one lipstick especially for fall this year, this should be it.Au Naturale African Affair LipstickI know I said in my review of Au Naturale that I wasn’t going to purchase any additional lipsticks but I broke down and purchased this one because I couldn’t resist the color. It is a great deep plum color that really makes your lips pop. Surprisingly the formulation on this particular one is softer making it one of my absolute favorite fall colors. When I emailed the company about the difference in formulation they told me it was due to less colorant in this particular batch of lipsticks. Because of this I can’t assure you of a soft lipstick, but this color is one not to miss!Root Taylor LipstickTaylor is one of Root’s newest lip colors and it is beautiful! It is a great mauve color that will look great on any skin tone. The formulation on this lipstick is incredible. It just glides on and looks absolutely incredible.Root Merlot Pretty BalmI absolutely love Root’s Pretty Balms. They are very moisturizing and add the perfect amount of lip tint. Merlot is by far the best color for fall and winter. It is a lovely deep berry color. It pairs incredibly with their Merlot eyeshadow and blush for a complete fall look.Au Naturale Burgundy Lip CrayonThis color is perfect for fall. As the name would suggest it is a deep burgundy color. It look great with just about any makeup look. However, due to the dry formulation you will need something over top of this lip color. I love using Au Naturale’s Deep Coral Lipgloss or Passion Fruit Lipgloss to complete my lips.

Outbreak - Book Review

photo courtesy of Amazon.comOutbreak by Tarah BennerI was fortunate enough to receive an advanced reader copy of Tarah Benner’s book Outbreak so I thought I would post a review on it. I’ve included her other books on my Things I’m Loving and so she sent me (and Olivia!) an ARC of this newest book. I highly suggest any of her books since they are all a fantastic read.Outbreak is the third book in her Fringe series. The setting is a post-apocalyptic world where humanity has survived a nuclear holocaust by building biodomes and remaining inside for several generations. When students “graduate” they are placed into work programs based on aptitude scores. The main characters, Harper and Eli are both placed into the Recon program. Recon workers are the ones who journey outside the dome in order to scout the area and protect it. I hesitate to tell you too much more of the story since I don’t want to ruin it!This book picks up right where the previous installment left off. If you haven’t read her previous books in the series they are a MUST read before this book. They are (in order) Recon and Exposure.  The story fast paced and the characters are constantly on the move. The author does an absolutely fantastic job of showing you the environment the characters are working in. This lends itself to the reader being completely immersed in a very realistic world. One thing I really love about this series is the unique setting. I’ve never considered what life would be like if I was forced to live inside a self-contained biodome. I also can’t say that I’ve ever read a story with this premise. This in itself, makes for one VERY unique read. The author does an excellent job of detailing what life would be like under these circumstances. Her research in this area really shows through.Another thing the author does exceedingly well with is getting you to really “fall in love” with the characters. You really begin to understand who they are and where they are coming from. You really start to care about what they are going through and you feel their struggles. This makes for a great read in my opinion since I’m all about the character development in ANY story. My one complaint regarding this book (and series) is the amount of language the author uses. I understand she is using them to convey the characters distress and displeasure, but in my personal opinion there are better ways to do so. The amount of language is not enough for me to change my recommendation of the book, however I wouldn’t recommend it for children/younger teens for this reason.Overall this book is an excellent, quick read. You will enjoy the storyline and the characters are riveting. Also the highly unique setting of a biodome is enough to keep any reader glued to the pages.  Definitely a book and series you should pick up!

Things I’m Loving – March

Here are a few things I’ve really been enjoying this month:The Last Five Years – Peter HollensI love musicals. It must be my theater background coming out. I’ve read about the musical “The Last Five Years”, but I’ve never seen it. I absolutely love this medley! If you like musicals you should definitely check out this a capella rendition.First and Foremost I Am – Sigga EllaThis is an amazing photo series by an Icelandic photographer. It is comprised of 21 photos of people with Down Syndrome. I really love the way she captures each person’s personality in their photograph. You can really see their unique character traits. The Magnolia MarketI was so excited when I found this online! I am a huge fan of HGTV’s Fixer Upper and I was so excited to find their store online. They have so many beautiful items that you can purchase. My favorite is currently this wall hanging. I’m still trying to convince Alex that we need it!The 100 – Books and TV ShowThis series has been a new favorite of mine. There are currently three books and two seasons of a TV show. You can find the first season of the TV show on Netflix and the second season on HuluPlus. The premise of the series is that in a post-apocalyptic world humanity has preserved its existence by fleeing to space and living on a space station for nearly 100 years. Suddenly 100 teens are sent back to the surface of Earth to see if it is once again habitable. If you enjoy YA-dystopian literature this is a series for you!
