Green Beauty – What is the EWG?

photo courtesy of ewg.com/skindeepOne way to remove toxins from your beauty products is simply to research and avoid certain ingredients. I get it though, “Ain’t nobody got time for that!”. So today I’m going to teach you about a little shortcut you’re going to love! The Environmental Working Group’s Skin Deep Database is an excellent resource for learning how toxic your products are. They already have a huge database of popular skincare and makeup products. (They also have other databases if you’re looking to limit toxins around the house.) There is even a Build Your Own Report option if you’re trying to find information on a product not contained in their database. The EWG rates products on a 1-7 scale, with 1 being the least toxic and 7 being very toxic. If you go into the record you see the exact type of toxins and their individual ratings. They also have a scale of the effects of the different toxins contained in the product.I absolutely love using this website to research products. While they still list some products as low toxin that I avoid due to ingredients, this is a very handy resource. If you’re looking to decrease your toxic exposure this is a fantastic place to start!
